With Criteria of the Kyoto Protocol it is enforced for high CO2 emitting companies to find out credits of CO2 emissions and then to decrease their values with exchange of emissions. According to the protocol, developed countries must reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5.2% compared to 1990. 5-year average of six greenhouse gases - carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen oxides, ozone, water vapor and Chloro-fluoro carbons (CFCs) - should be reduced to allowed emission levels in the years 2008-2012.
To achieve this emission’s target of developed countries it is allowed buying the value of reduction CO2 – emission. This means a developing country doesn’t have to hold these regulations of CO2 limit. However it can sell its C-credits in Carbon Markets, when it builds a project, which helps reduction of CO2 emissions. In this manner two kinds of certifications were prepared in international markets:
CER - Certified Emission Reductions: The certificate among the countries, which signed Kyoto Protocol
VER – Voluntary Emission Reduction Certificates: The certificate among the countries which aren’t member of Kyoto Protocol, such as Turkey and USA.
